100 Days of Lettering Days 9-13, but mostly 14! – Northlake Nature Center

A bit behind on zee blogging, but have been dutifully posting on Instagram. So let’s play a fun game of catch up! I’ll start with today’s post, and go backwards in time. Like The Doctor. Or Marty McFly.

Today I went to the Northlake Nature Center to walk the trails. It is so beautiful (caveat being you have to like swamps). Since I went for a walk through the woods, I lettered Thoreau’s quote “I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees,” because I always feel so uplifted when I go for a walk in the woods.

A tiny white moth on the trail. So beautiful. My favorite part about moths are their feathered antennae.

Cypress trees reflected in Bayou Castine. I always wondered why the Castine Center in Pelican Park was named that. Now you know!

Where we go to school here in da bayou! I remember when I used to ride my alligator to class. Just kidding… went to a different “Northlake,” but it is a chalkboard. I wonder if they would let me hand-letter it…

There are plenty of different trails. Be sure to grab a map if you are prone to getting lost. Like me. I didn’t grab a map… I didn’t get lost either, but there was great potential.

And now for catching up:

Day 13: Water color lettering.

This was great fun, I think I will have to do it again! I need to get a better brush for water color though. Most of mine are for acrylic or need to be retired.

Cut this one out and put it in a pretty frame. I messed up the G (somehow I wrote it mirrored, upside down. I’m not sure about my brain sometimes. I’m either incredibly too smart, or shockingly dumb) but my best friend Holly, who is a graphic designer, and amazing suggested: “Just make it connect!” And I did.
