100 Days of Lettering Day 7: My Cabbage

100 Days of Lettering Day 7: My Cabbage

with No Comments

I was listening to a Spotify playlist called “French Cafe Lounge” whilst brainstorming what to letter today, and I felt I absolutely must letter something in French. However, the only word I truly know is “oui” (because although I claim to be a francophile, I know very little about France, and have never been there, or learned French. I’m a terrible francophile. Le sigh.)

Having no bank of French knowledge to draw from, I looked up French terms of endearment. I must say, I was overcome by how… Sweet? Romantic? Ridiculous? I’m not sure, but I love them all, and I had these little scraps of wood left over from making signs that I had prepped with gesso. I painted in grey, because how could I not, since apparently Marie Antoinette loved grey! You really can’t get any more French than Marie Antoinette in my humble and most likely misinformed opinion.

I will translate them all for you.

“yes” – just in case you did not watch Madeline growing up and at least pick this one up.

“my lamb” – I like this one especially, because my name means lamb! Well actually “ewe,” but lamb sounds better.

“My Barley Sugar… or candy cane”

File_005
“My cabbage” – HAHAHAHAHAHA THIS IS MY FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD.

“My little girl” – sweet. If you’re from Louisiana you’ve probably heard this. I was also going to do “ma cherie” but ran out of wood… next time!

Ah! I meant to do mon trognon (my apple core) instead of ma petite! Sacre bleu! Oh well, bonne nuit mon chou!!!
