100 Days of Lettering Day 1: Follow Your Bliss

with No Comments

Here we go… 100 days of hand lettering!

Am I crazy for trying to do this, again? Yes. Yes I am. I’m glad that I got all 100 sketches done, even though it took me more than 100 days. And I feel that with the lessons I learned I will be able to move forward better with this project.

But really, why am I doing this? Because of a few things:

  1. I want to improve my hand lettering skills.
  2. I always pin inspirational quotes on Pinterest and then forget about them. Perhaps by lettering them I will meditate on the words and become a learn-ed and wise person i.e., sage.
  3. I love a good challenge but need accountability because I am an obliger, even if that is internet accountability.

Today’s quote “Follow your bliss” reminds me to not be afraid of going after what I find interesting, enjoyable, or piques my curiosity. I was listening to a podcast the other day, I want to say it was a Rob Bell podcast with Elizabeth Gilbert–I hope I’m not making a liar out of myself–and they were discussing how important it is to do the things you are curious about, and how society does not emphasize, and even puts down this idea.

Go in the direction of what makes you happy! Listen to what your inner child is curious about! In other words:

NOTE: Only one micron pen was sacrificed in the producing of this image

…I’m wondering how many pens I’m going to go through. Hopefully not 100!

And here are my thumbnail idea sketches:
