A little line drawing today. Sometimes I do line drawings because I’m feeling lazy, but it really is a good exercise to actually focus on the shape of an object, not just the light and shadow it creates. Also, it makes me be more precise, I can’t just flounder around with my lines and hope a couple of them end up in the right spot. They take commitment. I mean, marry each line kind of commitment.
Aesthetically speaking, I like the way line drawings look too. Like Lisa Congdon! Or my friend Rachel Fontenot!
Speaking of popcorn, I went to see Ant-Man this weekend. I have to admit, I felt a little apprehensive about this movie. I mean, come on, a guy whose super power is getting really tiny and being friends with ants? ANTS? But then I was like, well PAUL RUDD, I love that guy, guess I’ll go see it. And of course I loved him. I mean… it. He even wrote some of the screenplay, which you can definitely see in the movie. There’s a lot of Paul Rudd-isms throughout. 3D wasn’t worth the extra three bucks I could’ve put towards, oh I don’t know, popcorn, but of course the movie theatre gods decided to make the time I wanted to go 3D only. Sneaky. My only complaint was that I had a two glasses barrier between my tissue and my tear ducts. Okay, I didn’t cry that much. Just teared up like once or twice… Stupid Marvel.
Actually speaking of popcorn, I was wondering why we associate going to the movies with eating popcorn, and I found this interesting little article if you’re also interested, even talking about why we typically use yellow instead of white popcorn and marketing. It’s from Smithsonian, so I mean, it’s legit. There’s even a few popcorn puns. Enjoy!
