Daily Sketches – Day 10 or “My Dog Is My Child”

Daily Sketches – Day 10 or “My Dog Is My Child”

I had originally said that I was going to do five drawings a week, so I decided, well… I guess I should take the weekend off. But that was a silly idea! I missed drawing, and why would I not draw for TWO WHOLE DAYS? So there is no Saturday post, but here is todays: children’s toys.

I don’t have children, but my dog is my child, and she has quite a few toys, including this strange green toy we call “Toothy Face” (who makes kinda a terrifying drawing). We adopted Darcy (who is a girl, we are just nerds who love Jane Austen) about a month ago and since have completely fallen in love with her. Meanwhile she has gained about 15 pounds. And her greatest love you ask? Puddles. The muddier, the deeper, the better.

If you follow me on Instagram her own official hashtag is #DarcyTheDorkyDog.

The only problem with drawing your dog’s toys is that your dog loves her toys. A little more than halfway through my drawing session, which included me trying to forcibly cuddle her while I drew, she decided to valiantly take back what was rightfully hers and grab Headless Sheep off of my still life. It was only fair. I was proud of her for not getting it sooner.

While I’m writing this post I’m watching her poop and getting completely eaten up by mosquitos. Well, I wanted to lose weight.

Stuffed animals are interesting to draw because of all of the fur. You want to capture the texture, but you don’t want to completely fill it in when doing a monochromatic drawing, such as with ink.

Well, this is my attempt, happy Sunday!
